A dream thats been there since the creation of this blog but was hindered by fear and ignorance. We are Going to YOUTUBE. What we want most importantly, is to raise awareness of Wellness and Wellbeing in all ways possible. The aim is to reach out to everyone. Those who don’t know what they might be going through, those who do but can’t talk about it and those who feel like reading is somewhat a drag given their schedules and busy lives.  The videos will also be found on Facebook and Instagram. The reason why, we would be venturing into these other platforms is because this platform here(blogger.com) finds the video files too large to export and upload, and yes, this decision...

REBRANDED!

Image
REBRANDED!!! Dear Beautiful Soul… The Light in Me recognises the Light in You. Thank you for taking your time, it means a lot and Welcome. I’ve decided to rebrand this Blog (it’s no longer in my names). It was great having a website to my name, however I finally found the name I’ve been tirelessly searching for. The rebranded blog, will focus on the well-being of the Mind, Body and Soul. It will focus on both Physical and Spiritual aspects as these two are major gateways to a wholistic approach of Healing.  The new name of the Blog is BOITEKANELO (Pronounced BO-I-TE-KA-NE-LO). Boitekanelo has very deep and various meanings across the Sesotho Language and Culture. In seTswana Boitekanelo means wellness, competence, sanity, stability and balance, all the aforementioned, being that which we all seek. Incase you’re wondering why the sudden change, the rebranding is inspired by the self, the identity of the self and the potential of the self. The struggle for an identity in a frame of t...

Mental Health and Well-Being

Image
" Mental Health? What's so special about it? " You can ask that again. What is so special about Mental Health? What is well-being and why does it matter so much that everyone is talking about it. If not texting or writing about it its all across social media 'Mental health here and mental health there'. Well, Mental health involves all aspects of our being, our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. The well-being of our mental health al so affect how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood through to adulthood.  People with mental health problems or challenges can get better and many  recover  completely. Yes, you are right, there is HELP!!! And on that note, we almost forgot Well-Being, I didn't you did. Anyway, Well-being, when loosely explained, could be said to be   the experience of health, happiness, and prosperity. Theref...

Bipolar Spectrum Disorder

Bipolar Awareness Day 26 May 2019   What is Bipolar Spectrum Disorder? Three to four percent of South Africans have Bipolar. Bipolar disorder is more than just a simple mood swing. Bipolar is when one experiences a sudden, dramatic shift in the most extreme emotions. These shifts are not self induced, just a few hiccups in the brain. In the manic or “high” phase of the illness you aren’t just happy, you are ecstatic. A great burst of energy can be followed by a severe depression, which is the “low” phase of the disease. Periods of fairly normal moods can be experienced between cycles, which are different for different people. They can last for days, weeks, or even months. Bipolar disorder can be disabling, but it also responds well to treatment. Many other diseases can present themselves as bipolar disorder, so it’s important to seek help as soon as possible.  This spectrum covers four nerobehavioural conditions namely Bipolar I, II, Cyclothymic disorder an...

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Do you know a three year old who is having difficulties with communication?  They could be on an autistic spectrum. We are bidding farewell to a month that is famously known for raising well being awareness, a child abuse prevention and a sexual assault awareness month. In South Africa, it is also the month of freedom where we celebrate diversity and the freedom that our country has achieved. Unfortunately on the Mental Health and Well being side of things, our country is not so informing hence we witness a constant rise in biased, stereotypical and discriminatory behaviour towards people who live with mental illnesses or disorders.  ASD is a neurobehavioural (relationship between the nervous system and behaviour) condition that is characterised by difficulty in social interaction and communication and by restricted or repetitive patterns of thought and behaviour. The word spectrum is used because the severity and symptoms range widely with different ski...

Wednesday ,  8 May  2019 South African general election Will you be joining the voting lines? This year seems to be very chilled from the political side of things. South Africa has come a long way, we have had 25 years of democracy and yet not much visual change has been attained (It is a continuous process). By visual I mean proper implementation of democratic policies and the vision and mission thereof. Honestly 25 years is quite a lot of years, for us to live in a democratic South Africa that still has overpopulated squatter camps and a paramount unemployment rate. Sadly students who are about to graduate and those who already have in most cases do not know what this economy has in store for them. So many socio-economic issues like access to clean water and sanitation or access to a  good basic healthcare service are not in provision, if so they are not of good quality. We are still suffering from the scars of Apartheid, so many issues have not yet been...

Get to know me!

A little about me Hi, I have started this BLOG because I feel that I am very opinionated and most of the time my thoughts go to waste. My passion for crossing over my opinions, thoughts and knowledge is in almost every case comprehended as hostile and irrational. People do not understand that we are all human and are all prone to being biased but a little empathy here and there will not hurt, and so will understanding the difference between subjectivity and objectivity. I am an experienced public speaker and debater, and have some knowledge on how the masses are to be addressed. I hail from Tikwana, a township in the Free State headed by a town called Hoopstad, the richest maize producing district in South  Africa.  I went to Bloemhof Primary School (it was still multiracial then). Like every other premature kid I was an all rounder, I was the class monitor since having graced the school, I was one of their best athletes and not only that but I was an academic too (I ha...
